FFA233 DIGITAL INK & PAINT - Week 9 (Progress 1)

Image
I never drew anything themed Steampunk before. Therefore, I'm not very familiar with it. My first impression is - Steampunk is only about Mecha. But after I researched to get to knoww what it is... I discovered that its elements consists of- Victorian era, Science fiction, a lot of gears and copper, rusty looking atmosphere and old technology that had been modernized  (using steam engines)... Okayy finally I get the picture. I like Steampunk a lot more now because its a really cool theme to get in depth. Anyhow, this is my sketch that I presented to Miss Sheila:- Its supposed to be a ship sailing towards the ocean, and out of a city. You can see there's a bridge at the end of the horizon. I really like atmospheric sceneries so I this is what I'm trying to achieve. A rough sketch Applying dark and light tones to distinguish far and near objects - the nearer the object the clearer the colour Adding lighting to create form Final touches- cre...

FFA 233 DIGITAL INK & PAINT - Perspective Study

Image
Perspective drawing is very challenging. I almost gave up the first time I tried to draw Two-point perspective and *coughs* not to mention challenging bit... - Three Point Perspective. Nevertheless I believe practice makes perfect, therefore explains why perspective study is very important for us students.  Perspective:  a technique used to represent three-dimensional images on a two-dimensional picture plane. - Google definition From my perspective, perspective drawing gives drawing a structured look. Like everything felt like they're in the right place and its all so neat and it felt genuine. So now I know a bit of one point perspective, two point perspective & also three point perspective (this one is killing me).   The simple exercises on introduction to types of perspectives Firstly, draw the lines as many as you could from the vanishing point & then draw the boxes. I made a mistake by doing it backwards. lol

FFA 233 DIGITAL INK & PAINT - Shadow and Light Study

Image
Hello! In this week's class I learned how to add shadows and light in Photoshop CS6. For example like what brushes to use, the opacity of brush and also different colours are used for shadows and lights. As you can see above, here are two examples of drawings that has no lighting nor shadows yet added into them. Now these are the steps on how I do it:- In paintings usually we would paint from darkest to lightest. Same with digital painting we need to paint the shadows first. Before moving on to shadows, I have to find the light sources. In this room I found three, each separated in different areas. I observe the light in my bedroom and realized the shadow would follow the shape of the light. Round shaped light source tend to make a curve shadow on walls and rectangle shaped lights make rectangular shadows.  I set a new layer with blending mode as Overlay, yellow coloured soft brush with flow between 34-40% and opacity below 50%. White light is used for readin...
